Guide: Resizing photos on a Mac

By Matt Cornock

This may sound like an obvious guide, but not being a regular Mac user it took me a fair while to work out how to do batch resizing (or even single resize) of photos. So here are the steps:

  1. Open iPhoto.
  2. Select from the menu File > Import to Library.
  3. Select all photos you wish to import.
  4. Click Import.
  5. In iPhoto select all photos you wish to resize.
  6. Select from the menu File > Export.
  7. Select the Kind as JPEG.
  8. Set the JPEG Quality to High.
  9. Set the Size to Custom.
  10. Set your resize dimensions (e.g. by setting a maximum width or height).
  11. Optionally use the sequential filename settings if you want new filenames based on numbers or prefixes.
  12. Click Export.
  13. Choose your save location.
  14. Click OK.
